I am a behavioural scientist and health systems researcher who thrives on working with and within communities through engaging key stakeholders to identify barriers that limit equitable access to high quality education and health services. I strongly believe that solutions to community challenges lie within the communities themselves, as engagement initiatives allow for an increase in uptake of proposed solutions, empowerment of communities, accountability and social justice.
I have the capacity to work in close cooperation with others, provide technical leadership in realizing program objectives with broad experience in promoting quality education and health initiatives.
I am coming with a wealth of experience and competence as a result of my educational background and work experience. I hold a doctorate in public health from the University of Oslo, Norway, a masters degree in Health Policy and Management from the University of Birmingham (U.K), a degree in Health Development from Birmingham City University (U.K), and a degree in Sociology from Makerere University in Uganda.
I am currently a Senior Research Fellow of the Informed Health Choices Program, a collaboration between Makerere University (Uganda), and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Norway).
The main program objectives is to develop and evaluate resources for schools and the general public to assess claims about treatment effects.
In order to develop resources that are appropriate and effective, we continuously engage key stakeholders at the Ministries of Education, Health, and Gender, Labour and Social Development, the National Curriculum Development Centre, a network of volunteer teachers, students, parents and civil society representatives.
Through this collaboration we have developed educational tools which include a critical appraisal syllabus in form of a comic book for primary children, a teachers' guide and a podcast for parents. All of the resources are freely available, (www.informedhealthchoices.org). The tools were evaluated in 2017 in randomised trials of 120 primary schools in the country and among a total of about 600 adults, the trial reports have been published in the Lancet.
I am a dedicated program coordinator adept at managing programs. bringing deep understanding of what it takes to run high-quality program and achieve desired results.
