· Supported the development of the sanitation and hygiene survey tools for carrying out the feasibility study and conducted stakeholder mapping and assessments.

  • · Participated in the implementation of WASH in schools, including menstrual hygiene management and sanitation entrepreneurship program.
  • · Engaged and coordinated the program with the local governments, which led to the establishment of the sanitation coordination platform for the Mityana district. A number of reflection meetings, reviews, and stakeholder meetings such as the School Management Committee meetings, Sanitation extension workers meetings, etc. were periodically held
  • · Trained teachers as trainers of pupils on the promotion of WASH and menstrual health in schools. Over 60 Schools supported to form of School Health clubs, and annual WASH competitions conducted across the five project sub-counties in Mityana district to facilitate peer to peer learning among pupils
  • · Supported the establishment of sanitation entrepreneur groups including recruitment, training, equipment acquisition support, and mentorships among others. Exposure visits to established sanitation businesses were conducted, and Business development sessions were done including linkages, marketing, record keeping, business planning, etc.
  • · Supported the development of marketing strategies and marketing of sanitation products and services in the district. The emptying services of sanitation entrepreneurs were popularized, and products such as sato pans, and concrete sanitary slabs were extensively marketed across the entire district of Mityana. Over 50 selected village health teams were trained as sanitation marketers.
  • · Supported the project monitoring and evaluation, organized quarterly joint monitoring field visits of the district sanitation coordination platform, and conducted WASH situational survey, which supported bylaws drafting, and development of key WASH advocacy issues in the district.
  • · Supported project budgeting and budgetary control, including financial forecasts, budget tracking, and accountability and reporting. The project was successfully implemented with the guidelines of the donor.
  • · Supported the development of training manuals and Information, Education, and Communication materials for WASH, in schools and community. A manual, “Better WASH, Better Health” was developed to promote better WASH practices amongst pupils in primary school. A sanitation Marketers guide was also developed to support sanitation marketing and a number of latrine technologies selected for promotion in the rural and peri-urban areas of project implementation.
  • · Spearheaded the generation and compilation of key WASH success stories and stories of change. WASH content was included in every quarterly and annual organization newsletter.
  • · Capacity building: Technically supported and trained Health Workers, VHTS (142) on different WASH approaches, and sanitation marketers on sanitation marketing with the objective of activating demand for sanitation products and services produced and provided by Sanitation Entrepreneurs.
