  • The program aimed to increase access to, coverage of, and utilization of quality comprehensive HIV&AIDS and TB prevention, care and treatment services within district health facilities and their respective communities.

Accomplishments

  • Spearheaded the revamping of the health sector in the city through infrastructure improvement and improved service delivery.
  • Renovated five health facilities by introducing functional operating theaters in Kisenyi HCIV and Kawaala HCIV.
  • In addition, Institutional Deliveries have increased fivefold, Static immunization facilities have increased to more than 170 from 60. Kampala City in the 2015 State of the Worlds Mothers was cited as one of the six cities in the world where good progress has been made in saving poor children’s lives.
  • Introduced a flag ship City wide inclusive sanitation programme called “Weyonje”. It is community programme focuses on improving sanitation in the city through involvement of communities, private sector and leaders.
  • Through collaborations with various actors, have improved sanitation in schools from a pupil to stance ratio in schools of 1:112 to 1:50
  • Helped to raise over US$ 10m in grants to support various Public health infrastructure and Primary Health care projects in the City.
  • Was the lead in the formation of a public private platform for planning and delivery of health services in Kampala City.
  • Successfully coordinated as the lead for Kampala, renovation of five health facilities and initiating Operating theaters in two health facilities.
  • Was the lead in setting up a unique cluster based Urban Surveillance system that led in the combating of various epidemics like Typhoid, Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever, and Ebola Hemorrhagic fever in Kampala City with minimum mortality.
  • Expanded Anti-retroviral treatment (ART) from 22 health facilities to 45 health facilities in period of 8 months.
  • I was the lead in transitioning from outreach based care in ART to facility based treatment. The initial pilot in the country was done under my supervision.
  • Expanded HIV related services to island populations in the Busoga region.
  • Strengthened the integration of the HIV/AIDS clinic with the antenatal clinic with a result of having a PMTCT transmission rate of 4.3% which is below the national target of 5%. In addition, the HIV/AIDS clinic had an average viral suppression among patients of 97%.
