  • Interviewing and preparing resettlement submissions for refugees identified as being in need of resettlement in line with UNHCR Resettlement Guidelines and Malawi-specific Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assisting the Associate Resettlement Officer with RRF reviewing/coaching for new colleagues/deployees and national resettlement associates.
  • Providing training and guidance on UNHCR Resettlement procedures and policies.
  • Liaising with and referring cases to the Protection unit and/or the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) unit, should any protection concern or issues regarding the refugee claim arise during resettlement processing.
  • Undertaking field mission to Dzaleka camp, often on short notice.
  • Completing and updating all case files and database records as per UNHCR guidelines.
  • Managing expectations for resettlement and providing counselling and feedback: counsel refugees concerning prospects and problems in connection with the resettlement process.
  • Being vigilant with regards to potential instances of fraud in resettlement processing, implement the related SOPs. Train and sensitize staff (and partners and other stakeholders as required) on UNHCR’s Anti-Fraud Policy and Procedural Guidelines.
  • Managing electronic and physical resettlement documentation ensuring the confidentiality of individual case information.
  • Liaising with other functional units within UNHCR and partner agencies to identify individuals in need of prioritized resettlement and to ensure that necessary action is taken to finalise documentation on case submissions to resettlement countries.

  • I assessed clients to identify a number of mental health issues ranging from Depression, Anxiety, and Trauma and Suicidal ideation to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Using screening tools and interviews, I also assessed clients to identify those affected by Sexual and Gender Based Violence in conflict before, during and after flight and make referrals to Gender and Sexuality officers for medical intervention.
  • I assessed clients to identify their legal needs and determined whether a client needed legal representation or mediation from RLP on pro-bono basis or if it required an external referral to partners.
  • I operated and maintained a Client Management System data base. I opened both soft and hard files and took testimonies for clients. I provided counseling and guidance to persons of concern.
  • I was directly involved in the dentification, preparation and review of cases for resettlement for clients with medical and or protection needs that could not be addressed in the country of asylum.
