Project: The bioenergy, fertilizer, and clean water from invasive aquatic macrophytes, a £1.7m BBSRC-funded (GCRF).The project focuses on using invasive aquatic macrophytes (water hyacinth) and nutrient rich waste (manure, fecal sludge) in combination with immobilized microbial systems to facilitate the production of biogas, clean water and recovery of nutrients in developing countries. My roles

  • Participated in the planning of research protocols, budget, and equipment procurements
  • Organized and conducted scientific research on the use of water hyacinth as a bio-indicator of heavy metal pollutions at the shores of Lake Victoria, optimization of pre-treatment and co-digestion of water hyacinth, and reactor configuration to maximize bio-methane yields.
  • Investigated the integration of single and multi-stage anaerobic digestion for biomethane production and Develop the use of carbon additives (hydrochar, biochar, charcoal) for improving conversion and product quality.
