  • I worked on Ngamia-1 on Lokichar exploration Area in northern Kenya for Tullow Oil, WDI-804 RIG, Total depth was 3700m and heavy oil were I gained experience in TLC (tough logging condition) operation, because the tools couldn’t go freely on our wireline cable.
  • Because of that the client representative asked us to use TLC on drill pipes, second well was Twiga, WDI-804 RIG (Weatherford Drilling International), which was around 2800m also heavy oil and we didn’t get much problems as the first well Ngamia, we had Paipai as the third well in Turkana exploration block, Pyramid 5 rig (Sakson Rig-Egyptian), it was 4200m high temperature well unfortunately was a dry well, after paipai which was on another block the client decided to move the Rig to Locichar Exploration area and we started preparing and working on two wells at the same time.
  • We started Etuko in 2013 on Sakson rig; I gained experience on pipe recovery where we released the rig after 3 days’ waste time on the rig because of drill pipes got stuck.
  • As we were working on Etuko, where I acted as crew chief when other crew went to another well called Amosi which was also going on other side but close to Etuko as we decided to divide ourselves and we worked on both wells during open-hole logging and cased hole including setting bridge plugs and HSD perforations to be able to test the well using wireline tools MDT (Modular Formation Dynamics Tester) instead doing the whole well testing process.
  • After Amosi and Etuko, we lost the contract to another service company.
  • We were given one more oil well which was Agete where we only do open-hole logging.
  • Ethiopia: I worked in Ethiopia on OGEC Rig, on tuletule with New Age as the client, we had TLC experience, fishing because we got stuck twice and fish our tools twice, it was (HPHT conditions) high temperature and high pressure well Total depth 3500m.
  • I worked on another well Shimela for Tullow Oil on the same rig OGEC where we had only one section of logging 17” section and the rest of the sections were done by another service company after clearing all the equipment because we had lost the contract with our client.
  • After losing the contract with Tullow oil to another service company in Ethiopia, I was sent back Uganda to work on several wells including workover well and exploration drilling wells for example at walaga3, Ngasa2, Kasemene2, nsoga6, walaga2 which were exploration drilling and after turned to cased hole wells, used OGEC K-900 Rig, workover wells, Ngiri1, Rii-1-3, Mpyo3-7, Gunya1-3 to but a few these were for Tullow oil & Total E & P on OGEC 750 rig, ZPEB-26 rig and Caroil-6, where I set a number of bridge plugs, DST and TCP-correlations, Tubing Puncher, chemical & power cutter which a combined operation between Schlumberger and baker Hughes using WHE 5k and sometimes dual pack off 5k in absence of WHE (well head equipment) plus some CBL-VDL jobs.
  • Uganda: we got another client CNOOC and we did two wells for them including king fisher 4 and 3 where we lost two weight bars on colliding tools (Swetech) and the client decided to leave them in the wellbore, we done open-hole logging and production logging.
  • Uganda: Ngiri-2 at Bugungu exploration area this was exploration drilling for Heritage oil on OGEC 750 Rig, heavy oil – onshore and the Total depth was 1200m, we performed different types of open hole logging including density log, resistivity log, porosity log, wellbore seismic, reservoir fluids and rocks, SP-GR log among others.
  • Rwensama exploration area on another exploration block in Uganda, I worked on Ngali-1 also drilling Exploration for Dominion oil and gas on KRAKOW Rig, Total depth was 2700m unfortunately was a dry well.
  • Chrocodile-3 at Bugungu drilling Exploration area which was for Heritage Oil Total depth 700m with Heavy oil looks like black shoe polish.
  • All these operations were in 2010.
  • And after that we idle for some months and I was made yard supervisor, I was busy with logistics and other well testing maintenances at the base because of that, Testing Supervisor chose to work with me at the wellsite until when wireline got activities.
  • My Contribution to the Company.
  • I have contributed to company’s development by putting a system in place to control flowing supplies in Microsoft Excel sheet forms to track the use of flowing supplies & outgoing materials by sending it to Engineers and other crew members who were assigned to the project to update regularly.
  • This was due to the fact that we were operating in remote area where accessing supplies was a problem and we had more than 1 Rig operating different exploration areas in northern Kenya, we had to share logging Tools sometimes on client’s request.
  • Since we had one client who was operating in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia, we used to send and receive tools plus materials and supplies sent from our field support team from Nairobi City.
  • Because of continuous sending, packing and receiving of tools and other accessories, I developed a way on how we could track our tools, accessories and other flowing supplies by organizing an area for outgoing equipment and incoming equipment.
  • Somewhere placed in one of the container.
  • Wooden boxes and carton boxes were labeled indicating whether ongoing or incoming and I implemented Excel sheet which was both on hard copy and soft copy sent to every member on the crew, asking them to update in accordance with equipment whether outgoing or incoming.
  • This system worked in Kenya and Uganda where we use to be busy in operations., was responsible for the following:.
  • Making sure all safety precautions are taken in the field.
  • Keeping workshop neat and tidy all the time.
  • Responsible for the equipment maintenance and replacement of worn-out parts.
  • Having to scrutinize technical mechanical problems and follow corrective procedures to fix the problem and avoid recurrence.
  • Maintain good client relationship at all times.
  • Keeping customer’s properties safe.
  • Organized continued operations for rig by creating and overseeing daily preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintained and performed safety inspections on equipment and tools.
  • Installed pressure-control devices onto wellheads.

  • During this period, I was involved in completion/Slickline operation in Uganda and did jobs on 3 wells as operator.
  • Total E & P on OGEC 750 rig, we started with kigogole-1 where we had surface testing and we tested 2 zones, it took as one month for the all testing process, we had issues with our Heater but we managed to do a good job, the well could not flow by itself and we used (PCP) progressive cavity pump to flow the well, after kigogole-1, we started kigogole-2 and ngiri-2 all these wells we used storage tanks for flowing the well because the government had banned the use of ever green burner.
  • We used Christmas tree on kigogole1 &2 flow head coflex hose pipe, 1502 piping to choke manifold, 1002 piping to the heater from the heater to separator we used 602 piping to other equipment up to the storage tanks and gas burner and 6” 602 piping from the separator on gas outlet.
  • I gained surface well testing field experience and in absence of day chief operator, I was made day chief operator for 5 days, all these wells had heavy oil which could not flow in coldness, we used heat tracing on all piping and covered it with insulation to keep the piping hot so that flow well during well evaluation.
  • I got a chance to work with DST specialists in redressing downhole tools including IRDV, Packers, and downhole Gauges and I acquired technical know-how.
  • Redressing firing heads also helped me to progress in wireline explosives including HSD, Enerjet, and Tubing puncher which almost similar with to TCP efire though are different in arming procedures.
  • Pressure testing tools and surface testing pipes helped me to get familiar with pressure which knowledge and experience later I applied to wireline and slickline B.O.P, WHE and Dual Pack off.
  • I also gained slickline experience through helping slickline crew when they were settings plugs, retrieving fired guns and perforation on different wells to that is to say, kigoggole- 1, kigoggole- 3, Ngamia-1, in Kenya.
