Throughout my career, I have consistently identified tax-saving opportunities and implemented strategies that have minimized tax liabilities for several clients.
- Preparing corporation tax computations for clients on my portfolio and filing their corporate tax returns by the due date.
- Providing corporation tax advice on the deductibility of certain expenses as well as the appropriate tax treatment of particular transactions.
- Preparing monthly tax computations for indirect taxes ie WHT, VAT and Excise duty; and return filing of the clients on my portfolio by the due dates.
- Preparing VAT advisory memos on treatment of both domestic and cross-border transactions.
- Ledger reconciliation. This involves negotiating with the URA on behalf of clients with large tax debt to reduce their tax liability with a more than 80 percent success rate.
- Conducting tax health checks and due diligence engagements for clients.
- Providing taxation and regulatory advice to clients in both Uganda and Rwanda.
- Driving the firm's visibility in the tax profession through active participation in tax events for example tax workshops, timely tax alerts, thought leadership articles among others.
- Contributing to knowledge management and providing training within the department.
- Provided tax advisory and consultancy services to clients. This involved the review of client's transactions with the tax laws to come up with efficient and effective responses to URA audits/ queries.
- Provided compliance services to designated clients. This involved preparation of various types of returns; corporate income tax, partnership and individual returns for clients to ensure that they remain compliant with their return filing obligations.
- Data maintenance; This involved assisting in keeping the clients' tax data both in soft and hard form and maintaining up to date records for future reference and easy liaison with URA.
- Ledger reconciliation; This involved ensuring that the details appearing in the clients' URA accounts (ledgers) are reviewed, updated by URA to ensure that they match their internal records.
- Identified risks regarding the compliance of the taxpayers (clients) considered under the deemed VAT provision in order to ensure enforcements through use of voluntary disclosure.
- Regularly attended URA meetings on behalf of clients. This involved presentation of the client's tax position to URA for purposes of reaching an amicable position.
- Carried out client visit inspections to appreciate the nature of business in order to support in tax planning.
- Conduct analysis for all entered data and also enter indirect attendances in the MIS. Through this analysis, we were able to inform donors that there is an increase in opportunities for rural youth income generation and increased number of businesses hiring rural youth thus leading to acquisition of new projects based on these findings.
- Assist in the follow up of both direct and indirect status tracking in central and northern regions. This involved taking daily attendances of youths that had been enrolled on the program to ensure consistency of the project.
- Provide support in preparing and reviewing reports and verifying consistency in the collected data. This encompassed regular supervision of data entrants for quality data entry process, review of the weekly data collection report to ensure consistency with the information in the system.
- Review all data collected from the field to ensure that they are inscription error free.
- Work with the program M&E to review and modify program data collection tools and modification of program data entry forms for purposes of easy capturing and analysis of data.
- Save all the data entered securely and ensure that all data entered is properly backed up on a daily basis in other secure locations such as dropbox, TechnoServe server; maintained and updated user database of over 30,000 youths.
- Support other M&E program activities including conducting Focus group discussions and other surveys. This involved collection of information regarding the understanding of the impact of the program on the society for purposes of ascertaining areas of improvement.
